NIA arrested a recruiter of Lashkar-e-Taiba from Kashmir

 New Delhi, April 15

The NIA arrested a member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the the LeT recruitment module case

The accused was identified as Altaf Ahmed Rather from Bandipora in Kashmir.

The NIA stated that this case relates to the arrest of Tania Parveen Alamin Mondal by West Bengal Police for her association with proscribed terrorist organization Lashkar-eTaiba. An FIR was registered in Badurai police station District North 24 Parganas West Bengal under Sections 121A,124A,120B, 419 & 420 of IPC, sections10,13,15,18,18B,20,38 & 39 of UA(P)Act and 66F of Information Technology Act. 

The NIA had re-registered the case in April 2020 and taken over the investigation of the case. NIA had earlier filed chargesheet against arrested accused Tania Parveen.

The NIA officials stated that the investigation has revealed that accused Altaf Ahmed Rather is a school teacher in Bandipora and was a sympathiser of LeT. The chargesheeted accused Tania Parveen had  come in contact with him over social media platforms. He was instrumental in introducing Tania Parveen to LeT members based in Pakistan, in pursuance in the conspiracy of LeT to radicalize, motivate and recruit youth for violent Jihad in India. 

The NIA is further investigating the case.
