Lucknow building collapse: Mother, wife of SP national spokesperson Abbas Haider dead

A total of seven families lived in the apartment complex, 17 people were in the building when it collapsed

New Delhi, January 27

A four storied building in Lucknow collapsed killing two women. 14 people were 14 people pulled out alive from the rubble in the 16-hour-long search and rescue operations.

The police said that the incident took place in Hazratganj area of the city.

The deceased have been identified as Begum Haider (72) mother of national spokesperson Abbas Haider and his wife Uzma Abbas (30). Uzma was a former journalist. Her six-year-old son is undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

According to police, a total of seven families lived in the apartment complex. 17 people were in the building when it collapsed.

The Lucknow Police have registered an FIR against three owners of the building, Nawazish Shahid, son of SP MLA and ex-minister Shahid Manzoor. 

The two others named in the FIR are Manzoor’s nephew Mohammad Tariq and builder Fahad Yazdani. 

The officials said that Shahid was arrested from Meerut and has been brought to Lucknow. 

The police have formed five teams to nab the absconding duo.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered a probe into the collapse by a three-member committee. 

Haider however told media that his family members struggled for life and dieddue to suffocation because of laxity shown by local administration andergency services.
