Delhi police arrests a conman from Shahdara who duped several in the name of Vaishnodevi yatra

The accused had put up ads on Facebook with with lucrative offer of Vaishnodevi pilgrimage package worth Rs 1300

The Delhi Police have arrested a conman from Shahdara for allegedly duping several women on the pretext of providing them with a tour package to Mata Vaishno Devi.

The police have identified the accused as Madhur Kumar.

The police received a complaint from a woman claiming she got a message on a Facebook group about a Mata Vaishno Devi tour package and after getting in touch with the person, she was cheated in the name of pilgrimage. 

According to the police, the conman had lured people with the fake offer for travelling to Vaishnodevi at Rs. 1300. He claimed to arrange the entire package including a horse tour at the pilgrimage in the same amount. The complainant deposited the amount online on the provided QR Code by the accused.

The complainants and other victims were asked t reach a pickup point on February 17 at Shahdara metro flyover where the bus would be waiting for them. the coplainant and 24 other women who were similarly conned reached there but found no vehicle. When they called the accused’s phone number, it was switched off.

The police found his phone switched off and the police technical surveillance to trace the accused. . During interrogation, he disclosed that the money was transferred to his brother-in-law Tanu’s account. 

The accused has been booked for cheating and fraud under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
