Delhi MCD Polls- Around 50000 policemen, CAPFs and home guards turned the city into fortress during the voting day

The Delhi Police maintained a tight vigil and had their hawk eyes on the sensitive areas of the city where additional security cover was provided at critical booths and sensitive areas

The national capital turned into fortress on the voting day for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Around 50000 personnel, 14,000 home guards and 170 companies of Central Armed Police Force were deployed across the city. 

The Delhi Police maintained a tight vigil and had their hawk eyes on the sensitive areas of the city. The additional security cover was provided at critical booths and sensitive areas. 

In addition to the personnel from Delhi Police, home guards from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana were also deployed.

The police also roped in numerouus drones, CCTVs and body cameras to maintain security. 

The officials said that the police were asked to take footage and examine it at the same time to ensure there were no problems in the area. The police also placed body cameras at booths and sensitive areas. The patrolling was intensified while pickets were set up for detailed vehicles checking across the city.

Ahead of the voting day, the district DCPs held meetings with Aman Committee (peace committee) meetings to talk to political and religious leaders and ask them to maintain peace and report any sort of violence to the police. 

The police had also deployed special teams to keep track of electronic voting machines (EVM) and counting centres. The police station staff including the SHO were instructed to remain alert on any skirmishes, gang fights or clashes. 

The Delhi Police were also seen aiding senior citizen, women and specially abled citizens on the voting day adding a humane face of the police. 

In North Delhi’s Bara Hindu Rao area, 106-year-old Shanti Bala Vaidya was escorted to the booth by two women constables. In Rohini, 86-year-old Kanti Devi was assisted by her relatives and the police at the booth.
